Xu Yi-Fan mashes Chan Chin-Wei to breeze into the main draw – Wanlima Open 2011
Chinese Xu Yi-Fan compressed the qualifying tenth seed, Taiwanese Chan Chin-Wei with a breadstick to reach the main draw of the Wanlima Guangzhou International Women’s Open 2011, a WTA event held on the outdoor hard courts in Guangzhou,
People’s Republic of China. She earned a brilliant 6-1, 6-2 success over the 26-year-old Chan on Monday.
Ranked 382nd in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Xu needed only one hour and six minutes to crush the Taiwanese, ranked one spot below her, to secure a first round place at this International event.
23-year-old Chinese stormed into the opening set after fending off the only breakpoint faced, she kept entire serves comfortably. In addition to this, Xu converted two out of eight breakpoint chances to her advantage to earn a
breadstick in less than half an hour. She also clobbered a slightly higher first serve share of 75 percent as opposed to her rival’s 73 percent and registered a magnificent 78 percent win on it.
The blooming Chinese carried her winning ways into the final set and held her opening serve convincingly. Although she failed to save the only breakpoint faced, the Chinese capitalised on three out of four breakpoint chances to
her advantage to clinch the set with a 6-2 score line. Xu manifested a higher first serve share of 84 percent as opposed to Taiwanese’s 64 percent and earned an impressive 75 percent win on it.
Third seeded Kazakh, Zarina Diyas faced a different fate. The Kazakh swallowed Thai Nicha Lertpitaksinchai with a breadstick to enter the main draw confidently.
17-year-old Diyas took first blood in the fourth game but squandered her lead in the following game. She exchanged another break in the ninth and the tenth game and eventually bagged the opening set with a 7-5 score line after
breaking Lertpitaksinchai’s serve again in the last game.
After the Thai held her opening serve in the second game, Diyas unleashed her skills to reel off next five games in a row and earned a breadstick.
