  1. The applicable term is global climate change.  It's complex and not as well understood as we'd like it to be, because it's a young field and there's an incredible number of factors at play.

It is possible for the overall trend to be one of warming, even if some areas cool and others remain the same.  It is even possible for a global cooling cycle to take effect, but the latest studies believe that the warming cycle will resume about 2015.

That's not a long period, geologically speaking, to wait and see which way this goes.  But in the meantime, actions need to be taken, plans need to be drawn and implemented, to reduce local, national, and international carbon footprints.  We've opened the Pandora's box, now we need to see if we can close the lid somewhat.

  2. global warming is just a name. basically, the process screws up climate and environmental conditions all over the place. its not going to take away winter weather or whatever but youll probably notice that in winter there will be less snow o that sort of thing.

as to the ice caps, they ARE melting and it is a massive threat because once their melting gets to a certain point, we will be thrown into a downward spiral that will eventually leave the earth uninhabiable for humans.

it may be a natural process overall; the weather fluctuates over great spans of years. the problem is that we have sped up that process significantly over the past few hundred years.

we need to stop thinking that we are the only living things on this earth and have some consideration for the world living together. just change something small about your daily life, like recycling plastic and aluminium and you can actually help quite a bit! :)

  3. First of all learn how to spell, and proper grammer.

I have a question for Mike R, when did all of the north poles ice melt.  Because I must have missed it.  Also if that were the case, it had to get pretty cold up there pretty fast for all of that ice to magically re-appear, and even more fascinating would be how it all returned so quickly. :0

  4. Basically global warming is happening slowly but every day For example two summers ago the north pole completely melted for the first time.  Even though it doesn't directly affect you right now, it will in the long run, especially if all the glaciers and ice covered landmasses melt and flood half of the world(in a couple thousand years).

  5. SOME PARTS are getting cooler. On average it is a warming effect. The problem is that it changes the dilution of the water which interferes with ocean currents. Look up thermohaline circulation.

  6. Both...

  7. No one can predict the future.  These are all just people's guesses.

50 years from now the climate is going to be just like it is today, as it was exactly like it was 50 years ago.

  8. at the moment, global warming is happening more in the poles, leaving alot of cooler air in the other places.... which is why michagan has been getting long winters with cool summers... it is hard to understand but...
