Y.E. Yang confident of title defence at Volvo China Open – European Tour News
European Tour event continues as the Volvo China Open is ready to tee off from Thursday. Once again, some of the top Europeans and the Asians will be the highlights of the event. The four
day championship will take place in one of China’s historic cities of Chengdu.
The defending champion, Yang Yong-eun, well known as Y.E. Yang, will be hoping to make history. He will be starting as the defending champion and will be hoping for title defence. Yang,
who won the China Open, last year, is confident of his chances.
The 39-year-old, currently ranked at 35th in the world is hoping to show a repeat performance this year also. He won by a margin of two shots against Rhys Davies and Stephen
Dodd. Yang was totally dominant last year and finished the tournament having a total score of 15-under par.
This year, the China Open will be hosted by the Luxehills International Country Club. This will be the eighth edition of this event. The major championship holder, Padraig Harrington,
will be the highlight of this tournament.
Korea’s top ranked professional, Yang, will be hoping to make a move in the tournament. It will be a great achievement for him if he successfully defends his title this year.
Yang won his first major in 2009 at PGA Championship where he beat Tiger Woods by a margin of three strokes. It was amazing to watch him play on all the four rounds as he won his maiden
major title.
Last year, Yang pulled off a superb victory when his closest rivals, Davies and Dodd, were two behind him.
Yang in his recent interview said, “It is always important that a player defends any title he wins, out of respect for the championship and its sponsors, so I am pleased to be returning
to China where I have already won twice. I know the Volvo China Open title has never been successfully defended, but there is a first time for everything.”
Some notable players like Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia will also feature in China. They will be hoping to produce some under par rounds during the championship. Garcia, who is making
a comeback to the golfing arena, will surely be hoping to improve his form.
Garcia has been out of sorts since the past couple of months. He has carded under par rounds in a couple of tournaments he played this season. His powerful iron shots and touch is missing
in his swing. He also lost his world ranking and will be hoping to improve it.
Maybank Malaysian Open champion Matteo Manassero will also be among the contenders. He played beautifully during and won his second European Tour title last week. The Italian star is confident
of grabbing another victory in his career. It was only his second win on European Tour in Malaysia.
The tournament will be an exciting one as the top ranked players will be showing their skills and class. Yang will have to play well to win his second Volvo China Open.
