Y.E. Yang eager for Ballantines Championship - Golf News
The Korean player, Y.E. Yang isn’t having the best of days, but is really looking forward to the Ballantines Championship. Part of the European Tour, The Ballantines Championship will start on April 28 at the Blackstone Golf Course in Icheon, South Korea.
Yang missed the cut at last week’s 2011 Volvo China Open and then got into further distress when he got in a car accident on his way to the airport. Yang arrived home to find a new sponsorship deal waiting for him. The KB Star bank has offered to sponsor the rising golf star. Making the deal, Yang wants to show KB Bank that they have chosen the right person by winning the Ballantines Championship. Things are not going to be easy as Yang will have to face some strong competition.
"I had to deal with many flight issues this year and it had to happen again last week. I was also involved in a very minor car accident on my way here. However, this week has started off very well. I just signed a new sponsorship deal with KB Star Bank and hopefully this is a sign of better things to come," said Yang.
World number one again, Lee Westwood is the current favourite for the Championship. Also teeing off on Thursday is the English golfer, Ian Poulter, South African golfer, Ernie Els, Asian Tour star, Thongchai Jaidee and king of long putts, American Dustin Johnson.
Since the tournament is taking place in Yang’s hometown, he had a special message for his Korean fans. Yang said that since he doesn’t play in Korea that much, the best way to reward his fans is with a win. Last year, the Championship was won by the Australian Marcus Fraser.
Fraser actually ended a seven-year title drought, as he was victorious at Pinx on Jeju Island. Beating Brett Rumford and Gareth Maybin by four strokes last year, Fraser is also eager to defend his title.
With Westwood and Fraser really looking for this win, Yang really has to bring his best game to the Blackstone Golf Course this weekend.
