Y.E. Yang ready to compete in Ballantine’s Championship 2011 – European Tour News
Korea’s top ranked golfer, Y.E. Yang, will once again be looking to show his excellence in the Ballantine’s Championship, which is set to begin from Thursday, April 28, 2011.
The Korean is confident about his game and is looking forward for the four-day event, to be held at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon, South Korea.
Yang recently missed the cut in the Volvo China Open. He also had a small mishap, as he was involved in a car accident on his way to the airport. The 39-year-old also missed his flight to Seoul from Shanghai, due to the accident.
The local golfer will be the highlight of the event, as fans would want him to put up a good show. There are already high expectations from him, as he enjoys playing on his home courses. The Korean knows about the pros and cons of the course, which certainly
gives him an edge over other players.
The US$ 2.8 million Ballantine’s Championship will be a challenge for Yang, as all top ranked players of Europe will be competing in the event.
Yang is confident of playing well in the upcoming tournament and said, “I had to deal with many flight issues this year and it had to happen again last week. I was also involved in a very minor car accident on my way here. However, this week has started
off very well. I just signed a new sponsorship deal with KB Star Bank and hopefully this is a sign of better things to come.”
Some of the world’s top ranked players are also looking forward to compete in this event. World Number one, Lee Westwood will be the top seeded player in this championship. Along with him, his compatriot Ian Poulter and American Dustin Johnson will be among
the contenders. Thailand’s star, Thongchai Jaidee is also among the participants.
Yang carries a great reputation with him and wants to fulfill the expectations of his fans, by winning in his home country. Yang has also appreciated sponsors who are holding the European Tour event in Korea.
Along with Yang, fellow countryman K.J. Choi will also feature in the tournament. Choi is an experienced veteran and has been playing on the PGA Tour. Choi will be looking for another victory, as the last time he won was at the Iskandar Johor Open, in 2009.
Yang won his first major championship last year. It was at the PGA Championship, where he played exceptional golf during all four rounds and won by three strokes over Tiger Woods. He is currently ranked at 34th spot on the Official World Golf
Ranking.
On the other hand, Westwood has shown great form after winning the Indonesian Masters. Westwood is confident of continuing his birdie streak, going in this tournament.
Yang and Choi will have to battle it hard to win the championship. The local golfers will be looking to impress on the course, as all eyes will be on them to win the tournament for the home crowd.
