Y.E. Yang seeks to regain Korean domination at the Ballantine’s Championship
Y.E. Yang is in the field of the Ballantine’s Championship, aiming to win the title of the European Tour event in his home town.
The 40-year-old South Korean is planning to pile up scores in the opening round, and grab the top spot on the leaderboard. The tournament will be staged at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
“I desperately want to win this tournament,” he said. “I believe that if a Korean player wins or gets good results at this Ballantine's Championship, it will be a great start to the season, and I know that all the Korean players here this week will give
it our best to win”.
He added, “I have always believed that players need to have a lot of experience, and I believe that the Ballantine's Championship will be the tournament that provides a lot of help to the Korean players”.
“They will have a chance to play in this very large tournament, and also play with some of the finest golf players out there”.
He is looking forward to improving the image of the Korean golf professionals. According to him, he is hoping that every single individual will give his best in the tournament.
Since turning professional in 1996, he has won 11 professional tournaments in total. He recorded two wins at the PGA Tour in 2009, and won three European Tour titles in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
Similarly, he also displayed an amazing performance on the Japan Golf Tour, as he won five events. In addition to that, he won two times at the Asian Tour, two times at the OneAsia Tour and three at the Korean Tour.
Analysts said that his portfolio is very appealing, and he is capable enough to register a good score again at the European Tour event in the Korean region.
Kyung-tae Kim and Sang‑moon Bae are the other Korean players, who will tee off on Thursday along with Yang.
There are plenty of chances for the Korean players to regain their ascendency at the Ballantine’s Championship.
If they want to impress the spectators on the course, they have to make all-out efforts against big names like Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
Analysts added that the competition is expected to be tough, any single wrong shot could prove harmful.
They said that posting under par scores in the early stage of the event will greatly help Yang and other Koreans to find a place on top of the leaderboard.
