Y R cell phones considered a problem when.....?

I wonder why cell phones are targeted by the law. Isn't it already against the law for drivers to wear anything that impairs their ability to hear? I know it's not legal to wear headphones for portable stereos, cassette players or personal CD players. So, having a headphone for a cell phone should already be included in the old law. If cell phones are such a big distraction, than why isn't it against the law for the driver to eat, smoke, drink, change stations on the radio or talk to the passenger in the front seat. The driver usually look and maybe jester with hands. So, why so much emphases on cell phones? If cell phone use can be regulated, than all distractions should be. I think people should be made more aware of their capabilities while they are driving.

It is all BS.

Holding the phone is not the problem - it is talking on the phone that is the problem.  But they want people to use HAND FREE device.

But the lawmakers feel like they should do SOMETHING (anything).  So they do stupid stuff.

Suffolk County long Island NY the first county in the US to out law talking on a cellphone with out a hands free device.

Why? because there where too many FATAL accidents in the county that where caused by people not using hands free devices.

I don't thing the cell is the problem but the driver. If you can't multi task in general don't try it when other people are around, it's putting them in unnecessary danger.

Because talking on a cell phone is very dangerous for ANYONE who does it. It should be a law everywhere no phones in a car hands free or not . If caught life suspension of driving privileges. That might sound harsh but try riding your motorcycle and almost being run off the road by some stupid teenage girl who can not drive unless she is on the phone and yes teen age girls are the worst offenders on the road.
