  1. Because they aren't  interested in learning the facts. That might mean that they have to change the way that they think about something or someone and they don't want to do that.  People who resort to stereo-types aren't the kind who want to deal with things the way that they really are.  They want to deal with things they way that they want them. It fits their idea of how the world works.

  2. It is human nature to throw people into groups.  The challenge is to look beyond these stereotypes and see people as individuals.

For example, by looking at my photo, what is the 1st thing that comes to your mind.

  3. "stereotyping" is a built in mechanism.  No way to eliminate it.  If people in red hats always punch you in the face, you're going to have a stereotype people in red hats.  If people in blue hats always stop and give you a neck massage, you'll have a stereotype about people in blue hats.

Stereotypes are initial judgements based on experience that are easily overridden.  You don't 'hate' the people in red hats.  You can't 'not' have memories.

Racism is different.  Racism involves anger/hatred combined with action.  Racism is a problem with dumb people.

  4. because that is human nature.

  5. To make sense of things around us.  In other words, to simplify or generalize things so that we can remember them more easily.

  6. defense mechanism.

"you don't want to be hated? hate others.."

    ---stereotyper freaks.

  7. duh because monotype is out date.
