It's the hope that they might win. As long as you do it in moderation i don't see anything  wrong with it. Who knows you may win the jackpot?

as for some ppl, gambling and lottery can be very addictive. One of the reason is that they have set their mindset that they will always have a chance to win next time when they bet. Its not easy to change someone's mindset. Without will power and support frm surrounding, you'll get drifted away easily to the land of fantasy.. where you will always 'think' you will win.. one day..

Fast payout.  Plus there is a huge difference between lottery and gambling.  Gambling you can pick your odds and game that will be in your favor or personal preference.  You actually have a hand in how your luck will pay out.  Lottery is just for people that can't do math.  The odds of betting $1 and winning $100mil are ridiculous, however, betting $10, and winning $50 is a lot more like it.

I don't buy lottery tickets, but I go gambling in casinos every once in awhile cause it's fun. I don't expect to win. I expect to go in, blow the money I've got and have a good time doing it. That way, when I do win, it's that much better since I wasn't counting on it!
