Why is US holier than the Russians now going into Georgia for "security reasons," when we went into Iraq for the same generic security reasons? (I grant that both are liars--so leave truths of fact out of it. I am interested in the internaional and ethical principles being violated by the mentioned governments?

  1. Both wars are about oil

Bush's war in Iraq is about controlling oil in the Middle East.

The war he and his fellow Neocons have been fomenting in Georgia is about control of transshipment routes for Caspian Sea oil.

The US is taking the "holier than thou" attitude in Georgia because they don't want to be, rightfully, viewed as hypocritical.

    It's all propaganda.

Bush and his donors in the oil business have to try to get the US citizens behind their war in Georgia by making it appear to be a different scenario.

Saddam was a tyrant supported by Reagan, Saakashvili is a tyrant supported by Bush and McCain.

Russia was legally obligated to go into South Ossetia when Georgia attacked it.

Bush manipulated intelligence to try to get UN support for his war in Iraq.

He couldn't get it, so he went in anyway.

  2. The US was sent to Iraq by the United Nations, Russia went in on their own.. seeing an opportunity to take part of another country for themselves.....

The US will eventually leave Iraq, if allowed to stay the Russians would have annexed Georgia....

  3. Holier than thou in whose eyes?  At least Russia has the virtue of supporting enclaves of Russian citizens against a corrupt, violent and unstable fascist government in US pay.  Oddly enough, that has close parallels with the Falklands - and if the British were justified in rescuing British citizens from a fascist regime then, is Russia acting so differently now?

As in many other parts of the world, the US should keep its hands off - directly or indirectly - and its nose out.

  4. It's called arrogance, stupidity, and greed, son.  A really bad combination.

  5. The Georgian government has yet to gas any of its own people, or the people of other countries, or invade any neighboring countries, or support a number of international terrorist groups.

    Iraq did.

    That's the difference.

  6. They are both power hungry. The US is not holier, only more powerful.

The US was not sent to Iraq by the UN. The US sent itself to Iraq.

  7. The Russia - Georgia war is a classic human struggle we have seen over and over again in the world, when a country wants independence from another sometimes violence flairs up which happened here. But it is now over.

The US's illegal invasion of Iraq was in no way in accordance with the UN they broke international law in doing what they did all for oil.

The two wars cant be compared one is for Human independence which is understandable the other is for greed there is a massive difference :)
