  1. Yes, it is now a requirement to have a passport to travel abroad..

  2. It is PROOF of your citizenship in your own country..so you may re-enter your home country without a problem.     It is the most thouroughly  documented piece of I.D. you can have.  it demonstrates to officuials in other countries, that your own country has allowed you to travel internationally.  It is the ony acceptable I.D. that can be used to apply for a visa from a  foreign country.

  3. Passport is identity proof. 5. A passport is a travel document issued by a national government that identifies the bearer as a national of the issuing state and requests that the bearer be permitted to enter and pass through other countries.

Passports are usually required for international travel, though this is not always the case; they serve only as an internationally-recognised means of identification of the traveller. This requirement may be waived  in individual cases or for classes of travellers. For example, citizens of member states of the European Union do not need a passport to travel within each other under the EU law, and, until recently, citizens of the United States could enter Mexico, Canada, or many Caribbean Nations using a driving licence as identification and a birth certificate or naturalization  certificate as proof of citizenship.

  6. Because that is the way it is.  Would you not want to know who was coming into your home?

  7. The main reason is that if you are a convicted felon you can not get a passport and if you do have one and are conviceted it is revoked.  So is easy way to tell if a person is a felon or not.  I am sure are many other reasons but that I would think is the main one.
