  1. rain is evaporated water - it becomes a very fine vapour. salt cannot become a gas or a vapour, so does not evaporate with the water, leaving the water salt free.


  2. If you think about the water cycle water evaporates from the sea.  Salt along with other minerals is heavier so it does not evaporate.

    You can check this for yourself.  

    Get some normal water (rainwater or tap water) and put into a shallow container (blue would be best, to see the results)

    add salt (Say one teaspoon per cup of water).  

    Leave in the sun and let the water evaporate.

    You should be able to see the salt left behind.

    You can repeat this with seawater (though do not eat the salt!).  Of course you could also set up a experiment to collect the water itself.

    FYI.  Before fridges and freezers meat was salted to preserve it.  In order to get salt, seawater was allowed into shallow lagoon type structures and then allowed to evaporate, and the salt was collected for use as a preservative.  Areas with the name 'salterns' affixed usually housed these activities
