  1. because some people want to enjoy their favourite foods without killing animals (and veggie hot dogs only have a gram of fat, 90 cals, 15g of protein and lots of other vitamins and minerals!! unlike that other thing made of.. whatever)

  2. Er... vegitrain...tast ....produts...

OH - GOT IT - Why is vegetarian food made to look and taste like meat products? Right:

It's made to look that way so that it looks as though it's something far more substantial in quantity, quality and calorific value than it would otherwise - an attempt to make it look more like real food in other words!

  3. cos meat is tasty.

  4. Hey Stef K, :)

Just because people become vegetarian, doesn't mean they don't like the taste of meat. They may have become vegetarian/vegan because they hate animal cruelty, or because of their religion, maybe because of their health. So they made fake-meats out of vegetables, soy, eggs, etc. so veg*ns have more foods and choices to eat. Oh and the fake-meat products are more healthier than real meat. :)

  5. that soy fake meat they sell in a can looks like dogfood and tastes awful

  6. Well, I became a vegetarian because I didn't like the idea of animals dying for my taste buds. Once I stopped eating meat, I became disgusted by the thought of it after awhile because of the fact that it used to be living and breathing. The taste was never what disgusted me. As long as I know there isn't anything that came from an animal in my food, I'll eat it if I like the way it tastes. And I like the way most faux meats taste.

  7. well most times, vegetarian products

are more "healthier" than meat. Because it's mostly

    soy and vegetables in it.

Personally for me, I like the taste of meat. But I'm a vegetarian because I don't believe in killing animals.

Nothing wrong with people eating meat though. Just my opinion. But I buy a lot of vegetarian burgers and things like that...

  8. I've always wondered this. When my daughter was going through her teenage vegetarian phase, she wouldn't eat Linda MacCartney pies because they looked and tasted too much like the real thing.

So, if they can take vegetable protein and rework it to look and taste like meat, why can't they take animal protein and rework it to look and taste like, for example, brocolli?

  9. What else do you expect it to look like?

  10. so that the people who used to eat meat and hav turned vegetarian hav options to simulate the tastes and flavours they used to experience.

  11. Vegetarians don't stop eating meat because they don't like the taste. They stop because of the cruelty and violence that the animals face. Taste has nothing to do with it.

  12. coz it's acceptable to vegetarians

  13. I think it's so veggies can have the "central protein" without it being TOO different from what everyone else eats. It also gives you more textural and flavor variety. However, like with meat, the taste depends heavily upon how it is prepared.

  14. No idea, I think it would be very off-putting to vegetarians.

  15. Because some people like the taste of meat, regardless of whether or not they find it to be ethical.

I ate a lot of 'fake' meat when I first went veg, but slowly I lost the appetite for it... okay, except for fake taco 'meat' soy crumbles. Yummmm.

  16. Because they can't be bothered to invent whole new types of food.

And the word is "vegetarian", for future reference.

  17. Vegetarian food is made to look and taste like meat products because many vegetarians grow up eating meat.  Many of us stop because we don't like the cruelty and the environmental degradation associated with eating the flesh of dead animals, and we prefer not to be eating foods that have so much sat fat and cholesterol.

Analogues are also quite useful at helping people with their transition from omnivore to vegetarian.  I eat them when I really don't feel like cooking.  And because I like the taste.

  18. Some people go vegetarian even though they like the taste of meat.  Also, many people who go vegetarian are only familiar with meal planning that revolves around a piece of meat.  Most of them are lower in fat an calories than the real meaty varieties, so they appeal to people who are in it for health or weight loss.  And, of course, we veg*ns like variety in our diets as much as the next guy.

  19. because some of you women try to fool your meat craving husbands into eating it lol.
