  1. Hamsters are great starter pets! It was my first pet and my brothers also. They are easy to maintain and fun. My brother and I would build tunnels in our rugs and let them go through them. We bought hamster exercise balls and they race around the house in them. They are pretty fun but If you are looking for affection a hamster is not it! But overall, great starter pet and very fun pet if you have a creative mind. HINT: DO NOT GET MALE AND FEMALE, they make babies galore!

  2. Hamsters are GREAT pets. I have two and they are the best! They don't cost much and they aren't any trouble. Just make sure that their cage includes an exercise wheel, a few mineral chews, a food bowl with food of course, and a fresh water everyday. Make sure to clean their cages every 2-3 days. Never use wood shavings or aspen for their bedding. The best bedding to use would probably be CareFresh bedding. My hamsters go crazy when they play in the fluffiness of the bedding :) The best food to buy is Nutriphase Gold, for gerbils/hamsters. Everyday put a fresh spoonful in their food bowl. Also make sure to give your hamster lots of love. Hold him/her everyday for about 10-20 minutes. It's best not to hold him the first 2 or 3 days you've had the hamster. They still need to get adjusted to their new home. Sorry this answer is so long, but I think a hamster would be a great pet. :]

  9. For the following reasons -

The hamster is one of the most popular pets around the world.

Their cute appearance, lack of smell, relative ease of care and the wide range of species, colours, etc make hamsters the most popular small pet in many countries today.

Hamsters can be real entertainment for his/her keeper if proper care of his mood and diet is taken. It is sheer entertainment watching them exercising on their wheels or in hamster balls, watching them prepare their nest and negotiating various tunnels in all directions.

Hamsters make ideal pets for young and old alike and are an ideal pet for those at work or school during the day as they are nocturnal, sleeping during the day and waking in the evening.

Apart from the initial expense of the cage and equipment hamsters are relatively cheap to keep and require less care than larger pets. However, as with any pet, keeping a hamster does require a commitment to caring for it during its lifetime, including veterinary treatment if it becomes ill.

Hamsters take up little room only requiring a cage in which to be kept and so are an ideal pet for those living in apartments or small houses.

The cheek pouch-filling technique is only one of several traits that makes the hamster an enjoyable, delightful pet. They are fun to watch as they go about their daily routine, and have a curious and inquisitive nature.

Because they don't require much attention and can be left alone for short periods of time, they are easy to keep. Like any pet, hamsters require basic care, but they can be an excellent choice for a first-time pet owner.

The only sad thing about hamsters is that they live only up to 1000-1100 days (i.e. about 1-3.5 years), which can be a real heartbreaking thing for children. But few people think it as an opportunity for children to understand and learn the responsibilities and other important things in life.
