fighter jets need their wings swept back to break

through to supersonic speed, most commercial and

executive jets have back-swept wings. but some executive

jets have wings sweeping forward why is that what

is the advantage

  1. Actually some figher protypes actually had forward swept wings. such as a su-37.

Forward swept wings will cause a wing root tall before a wing tip stall which is bad because airloens lose effectiveness. They are move the center of pressure forward on the wing givnng the a/c a nose heavy tendency, whcih prevents tail stalls, and easier recovery of the aircraft.  Due to this, they are also less prone to dutch roll. But they forward swept wings also are usually have negative static stablity, that is if distrubed during flight, will have ever increasing oscialliations, unless corrected. This also means that the aicraft is more manevable. Also in a turn, the inside wing will have more surface area to the realitve wind, making the outsind wing have less area, thus haveing higher rates of turn, with minimum rudder input.  Plus is allows for wider cabins, as the wing root can me moved farther aft.

The reason that they never caught on really with fighters, is that a delta wing has a higer lift as is has more wing area, with about the same amount of drag, and can be made highly instable for maneverablity. Forward swept wings also can not withstand the high stresses as well at a delta wing too for high g flights due the wing attached at the forward and rear on a delta.

  2. The advantage of forward sweeping wings is that planes with wings like that are more maneuverable

  3. * mounting the wings further back on the fuselage, allowing for an unobstructed cabin or bomb bay, and

        * increased maneuverability at transonic speeds, due to airflow from wing tip to wing root preventing a stall of the wing tips and ailerons at high angle of attack.

got it from this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward-swe...

  4. Forward sweeping wings actually create instability.

Given the state of computers, they can compensate for that.

Because of the inherent instability, they are extremely maneuverable
