Programs are the instructions.  

There are two areas of a computer.

The hardware and the software.  

While the hardware does the work the software working with the OS (operating system) tells it what to do.

Without instructions a computer would just sit there looking silly.

Incidentally.  Windows is not the OS.  Windows is a Graphical User Interface.

Some say a pretty way to do and look at things.  

Although now days its so mixed into the OS who really knows what part does want any more.

to make our work easy. the things u can do in hours can be done in minutes like preparing a salary sheet in excel can be done in minutes but if done by hand take time even of 10 persons

so to make work easy fast and accurate we use programs like excel
