i used 4 different types of headsets and all of em do work but when i plug em in the computer (desktop not a laptop) the speakers are still on when im watchin a video. i have like Boston speaker (Boston is the name of the speakers) and a base speaker at the botton were the 2 desktop speakers connect to it and a cord connects from the back of the computer to the base and another wire leadin to the outlet for power. so the base has 3 holes in the back: speakers, computer, and plug. i just dont get it, so what should i do?

  1. Your receiver has a small switch inside the headphone jack that shuts the main speakers off when headphones are plugged in. The computer doesn't have that switch. You need to turn the power off on the main speakers to get them silent then use the headphones.

  2. Unless you have a high end sound card in your computer, it's likely you don't have a separate headphone jack and other jacks for your Boston speakers (like center, rear, front, etc)

The other poster is more than likey right.  Unplug your Boston speakers, plug in your headphones and you should have music.

One possibility is that you are plugging your headphones into the CD drive - you should probaby stick to the sound card jacks.  Some computers have those jacks on the front to make it easy to plug in and are color coded, either way whether the audio jacks are in the front of the PC or the rear, try plugging your headphones into the light green colored jack and you'll get sound.

    Good luck!
