Have you noticed other words relevant to the topic of adoption that the Y!A Spell Check does not recognize?

(I do realize that this is a question of little merit!)

  1. I noticed that.

  2. I, too, have noticed, as well, that there are several applications with spell checkers that don't recognize the word adoptee.  Hmmph.

(It doesn't seem to recognize "Hmmph" either.  Oh, well.)

  3. most spell checks don't recognize the term adoptee.

    pffft

    i've noticed.

  4. Interesting.

  5. OMG!  I was just thinking this very thing.  It drives me crazy!!!!

I disagree, I think it's very relevant.  Why are we not recognized as existing?

  6. Yes, I have noticed that also. Word doesn't recognize it either.

And I just tested a few more and Y!A spellcheck also doesn't recognize birthmother or  birthfather (or birthuncle, birthsister, etc.),  or oddly enough, "spellcheck". Interestingly, though, it does recognize "adopter"!

And hey, a frivolous question is nice sometimes!

  7. Most word processors you can add words. Fire fox has built in spell check and you can add things to the dictionary.

  8. There are actually a few....  I can't think of any right now....  but I typed in an "a" word and as I scrolled down,  the word a$$hole was there!  I couldn't figure out why.....  Shouldn't it be r****m..?  I can't figure Yahoo out sometimes!

  9. Two things:

Thanks for sharing that with us

    &

    Thanks for the two points!

  10. I know!  It's crazy, isn't it?

And very telling.  I think one of the best ways to marginalize a group is to make them feel insignificant.  And this is big.  And it's not just on Y!A.  Most spell checks do not recognize adoptee.  The word "Adopter" makes it through spell check but adoptee doesn't. Hmph!  What is up with that?

I really don't know whether to laugh or cry.

  11. Lots of real words aren't recognized by the spell check.  That's why they have the "Ignore" button.

Not a conspiracy to do with adoption topics.
