I'm 16 years old, 5' 10" and weigh 170 pounds and i was thinking to buy a YAMAHA YZF 600R for my first bike...from what i have read, this bike is a good beginner bike because it isn't as powerful as the R6 and is more comfortable and forgiving...it is also pretty cheap..a year 2003 you can get for under $3000...if anyone has this bike or knows some pros or cons about it i would like to hear about them...is this a good beginner bike? i really dont want to start on a 250 or 500 ninja because i know i will grow out of it within a week...thanks!!!

  1. spend the 500 bucks to ride an old 70's yamaha, honda or kawasaki...

Gain confidence in riding, I think that a newer bike period is bad to learn on, the old bikes were light and quick enough for a 16 year old to respect.   ride2live.com

  2. The only thing bad I heard about them is that you might have to replace some shifting mechanisms at 20,000 miles +

  3. Honestly it depends. It is a good beginner bike FOR A MATURE PERSON. Now being 16, you going to want to hot dog in front of girls and do dumb stuff like that. Trust me it will happen. All I am saying is if you get this bike RESPECT IT

  4. considering u have never ridden a motorcycle before buying a brand new powerful bike will be difficult and seems unrealistic.

Try riding older and smaller models to learn on and once your semi-comfortable with the feel and how to ride it, your good to go. And whoever says riding a motorcycle is similar to riding a bicycle is soooo wrong.

  5. Look I don't  you or your back ground to say if that a good bike for you or not. It has to do with your age not your size. you sound as if you are going to buy it yourself which is good. But what kind of riding are you planing to do?

If your buying to be cool It is the wrong bike for you. If you buying as means of transport than you may be OK.

I know guy two times your age that I wound not trust on unicycle let a lone a 600r.

Would I let my son ride that bike at 16 NO I would not.
