  1. You can't guess the temperature of the water by using your hand, and if you're trying to measure with a strip or peel and stick meter, they can be inaccurate up to 20 degrees.

So, before you try lowering the temp. which you already think feels too cool by hand, and think is too hot by gage - invest in a good digital probe thermometer or Infrared temperature gun.  You'll have the turtle a long time, so it's a good investment to make.

Once you're sure what the water temperature is, you can lower the water temp. if necessary by adjusting your heater, or moving lights a bit further away if necessary (just make sure the UVB lights stays within 12" or it won't be effective).

    Good luck with your tank.

  2. i have that problem too! mine is in the early 80's, but it is ok for me, because it is only during summer. So hopefully your tank isnt always that warm, then you have a problem. If it really feels like 70F, you might have a malfunctioning thermometer, or a broken heater! i have a zilla digital thermometer, it is pretty accurate, and it only cost $8.upgrade.
