YELLOW School Buses for England ????

Who out there agrees, that this government would save a whole lot of money but having these YELLOW SCHOOL BUSES, for all area in England.

Environmentally sound, run them on deisel

Environmentally sound, takes 5O odd cars off the road in a lot of cases.

Health & Safety : Apart from the obvious vunerability of our young, it would be safer then the terribly CROWDED and unruly general transport.

Is there anyone in the government on Questions & Answers I wonder that might take up the baton on this one???

  1. I agree. pink and blue spots on a yellow backround.

  2. Good idea but commercially unsound. Because of the markings on them ie SCHOOL BUS they could not be used for anything else therefore more buses on the road.

The Americans are not worried about the environment just look at the price of their GAS.(fuel)

  3. They already have them near me.  They are annoying.  They are always half empty because the noisy kids just get on the normal buses.

  4. Some already in use near me in Stockport and I think they are a very good idea.  We should copy the US for this as it would take so much traffic off our roads at school times and be safer for the pupils.  Drivers in the US really respect these yellow buses and slow down at school times, unlike here.

  5. Why must we copy everything from America?

Lets make them grey. It will suit the English weather lol

  6. Good idea.

My daughters would use them if they had proper school buses in our area.

Non-school passengers, are always complaining that they don't want to use public transport when its the "school run", kids too rowdy etc, so having designated school buses would benefit all.

    Plus as you said safer.

Hope someone out there "knows someone" who could perhaps put this to our government.

  7. I totally agree!!!

(I'm a woman of few words!)

  8. It is already in the pipe line.

A Yellow School Bus was on show yesterday in Bristol.  They are already in operation in parts of England and Wales.

  9. All the school buses in Bournemouth are already yellow.

But then, most of the other buses that area are yellow, too.  One of the main bus companies in the area  is called 'Yellow Buses'...

  10. We already have Yellow School Buses here in India. It's customary for the schools here to operate buses painted yellow for school purposes.

The safety provided to the young and often rowdy children is much more this way. Moreover, I've also seen school buses here where on the body are written the phone numbers of the authorities, so that any rash driving of the buses can be reported.

  11. From the way some of the kids around here behave, yellow vans might be more appropriate.

  12. They're yellow to be seen and avoided, so kids won't be run over.

The problem is when they are hit, depends on the design of the interior roof that run sideways to the bus come down like knives in a front end collision.

There's also the problem of over crowding and no seat belts with kids flying everywhere.

Every year, we in the United States hear of several children accidentally run over by school buses or run over by someone trying to overtake a stopped bus letting out kids.

Also, there's been so much violence in some school districts that now most have video cameras to help cut it down.

  13. Cant` kids walk to school nowadays ? when i was a kid

it was three miles there a same at home time.

This would be even more environmentally friendly and more

health for the children.A better baton to carry than yellow

buses for the unruly little darlings.Next it will be tea,pop and

biscuits on the bus wanted for them.

  14. Yes they will be more distinctive

  15. my school has yellow buses (x

but yeah all of england should get them (:

  16. what's wrong with the sunshine bus ?

  17. I agree because for safety sake, yellow was easier to see in fog, rain, and other bad weather conditions.

  18. Nice idea on the surface but not well thought through. Sorry, I have to disagree with you. But I'm willing to give my reasons in full for anyone who wants to read:-

Americans have a system whereby they 'bus' their pupils across towns, sometimes considerable distances, to ensure that the ethnic and social mix of schools is equalised. Therefore you could have a child having to catch a bus to somewhere far from their local school.

They also have thousands of parents who drive their children to school in big cars and MPV's the same as here.

The American yellow school busses have a safety system based on their big flashing red lights. When the bus is at a bus stop these lights are flashing.

It is illegal for any vehicle to overtake the bus when its red lights are flashing.  That is the safety feature, not the colour of the bus.

There are so many yellow vehicles on the road that it has lost its significance as a 'safety' colour.

Also, ordinary school busses are not actually dangerous. Most schools don't expect their pupils to use a general service bus, they hire busses for school bus routes.

As for the colour, when have you last read of any incidents which could be put down to the colour of the bus making it invisible?

You are also suggesting that busses could be used to eliminate the "school run" completely. That would not work because you would have to cover all routes that pupils live. That could be dozens of routes for a typical secondary school.

It would also need a dedicated fleet of busses and drivers (and their maintenance) where most of them would only be used 2 hours a day would be prohibitively expensive. I can imagine the affect that this would have on your local Council Tax.
