  1. You have no idea what you are talking about.

One of the most prevalent Katrina myths is that "no one left when they were warned".  In reality, the evacuation of New Orleans was a tremendous success and 95% of the metro area's 1.4 million population was able to leave with only 48 hours notice. Half of the remaining 5% went to the Superdome, which was the designated shelter. Most of the rest didn't evacuate because they were too poor to afford to pay $300/day for hotel rooms and restaurant meals (there were almost no free places to go and FEMA did not start paying for hotels until after the disaster).

Compare the evacuation of New Orleans with the complete flop that was the attempted evacuation of Houston 3 weeks later for Huricane Rita.

  2. there doin whut they did afor so i reckun therell jest b more trubble but whut choise did they hav? no car no way 2 git owt it aint there fawlt

  3. Well, since the 'complexion' of NOLA has changed, and the Mayor has learned a lesson, I think they will get out.  I certainly hope and pray that the lesson learned will prevent mistakes in the future. Even the poorest person should have access to ways and means of leaving. However, there will still be those left behind because, they just refuse to leave unless they are forced.

  4. Nope. Not unless someone takes them by the hand and leads them out. Katrina proved that a lot of people are so used to handouts and having someone else manage their lives that they are incapable of independent decision making.

What's our ol' buddy Mayor Nagin doing? Nothing as usual?

  5. No, they don't think this way..this would be common sense

this common sense does not prevail in New Orleans

  6. The idiot mayor they have will still whine and complain that Uncle Sam did this to us and not him.

  7. If you don't own a car and can barely pay your rent, how do you propose you get yourself out?  How will you live once you leave?  Where will you stay?  What will you eat?

This is an issue of poverty.  If New Orleans were less impoverished, Katrina wouldn't have killed as many people as it did.  It's not about "smart enough," and you're a bad person for suggesting it is.

  8. If New Orleans gets hit again, and I think everybody will agree that that is the LAST city that needs to be pounded by another hurricane, then those who simply chose to ride out the storm should consider leaving this time, if an evacuation is called.

However, some of those people who were stuck there couldn't leave.  They were talking about Katrina on "Morning Joe" earlier and they  mentioned that some of the poorer people didn't get out of town because they hadn't received their checks yet.  They were stuck there because they didn't have the money to buy gas to get out of the area.  This was really sad to hear.

Of course, the loss of life could have been impacted significantly, if it weren't for the shared failures of the local, state, and federal government.

Those people were left behind... there's no excuse for that.

  9. If there's gas in the buses.

  10. School Bus (Ray). has been chased since yesterday. He sent the

buse's out empty towards texas. He forgot to put people on them.

Took them awhile to calm him down. But they have been returned

and should they needed, they will be parked in the same 4 feet of

water they were sitting in the last time.

  11. The smart ones will leave the "uneducated" will stay behind and probably be wiped out...Survival of the fittest at its finest

  12. more people got out of New Orleans, after the levees were breached, than were predicted to be able to get out after a 'disaster drill' test (Hurricane Pam) was made a year before that,,, but go on believing what you want to believe, it makes you look as ignorant as you probably are

  13. Have you ever lived in the path of a hurricane? It has nothing to do the smart or not. It is a huge financially to have to board up and move out.

How would a single mother with no car pack up and leave?

  14. Amen to Adam B's response!!!  Those people dying had nothing to do with intelligence, but of course you would never understand that.

  15. Ya'll know the smart ones already left.
