Yafan Wang outshines Deniz Khazaniuk to enter final showdown – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Chinese challenger, Yafan Wang, upset the eighth seed, Deniz Khazaniuk, in a three-set thriller at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Friday. She hit back to record a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory against the Israeli to charge into the title-round at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place from 10th to 16th December in Bangkok, Thailand.
The underdog displayed brilliant tennis to make an epic comeback and triumph over Khazaniuk. Battling each other for the first time, Wang comfortably secured a spot in the title-round at this outdoor hard court event.
The world number 513, Khazaniuk high-spiritedly entered the Rama Garden Sport complex. She winded up five games in a row before the Chinese could come on the score board. The Israeli plucked her serve once again and subsequently clinched the opener with
a breadstick. She was never challenged with any trouble and cashed all three break opportunities to inch towards the fame.
Wang rebounded in the following set. After Khazaniuk kept her serve in the fifth game, the Chinese unleashed her skills and pocketed the last four games in a row. She held her entire serves with self-assurance and capitalised on two out of three break chances
to clobber the equaliser with a 6-3 success.
Ranked 520th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wang went berserk in the deciding set. After Khazaniuk held her serve in the second game, the Chinese unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and subsequently clicked the decider
with a breadstick. She brushed off both breakpoints she came across and converted two out of five break chances to her advantage.
The 18-year-old Chinese dumped the Japanese contestant, Mana Ayukawa, in straight sets to set up this meeting. Wang received a walkover against the Lithuanian qualifier, Akvile Parazinskaite, to enter quarters.
Up next for Wang is the fifth seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk, who trashed the Ukrainian qualifier, Oleksandra Korashvili, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
She exchanged three serves break before bagging the opener in the tie-breaker. The Thai required a single break of serve in the last game to clobber a 7-6(4), 6-4 score line.
