Yafan Wang trounces Mana Ayukawa to enter semis – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Chinese contender, Yafan Wang, dumped the Japanese contestant, Mana Ayukawa, in straight sets at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Thursday. She jolted down a 6-4, 6-4 victory against the Japanese to power into the final four at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Chinese teenager showed brilliant skills to outshine Ayukawa in their first encounter. After recording the victory in almost one hour and 15 minutes, Wang comfortably entered the semi-finals at this outdoor hard court event taking place from 10th to 16th December.
Wang made a comfortable entry at the Rama Garden Sport Complex. She swiftly bagged her entire serves and levelled the scores with the Japanese. The youngster got the breakthrough in the last game and subsequently clicked the opener with a 6-4 win. She brushed off all three breakpoints she came across and cashed the lone break chance to inch towards her goal.
Ranked 520th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wang kept momentum rolling in the following set. She got the coveted break in the opening game and took the initial lead. Despite losing her edge in the very next game, the Chinese capitalised on another break chance in the third game and jumped to a 3-1 lead. She held her remaining serves with self-assurance and eventually cinched the set with a 6-4 score line. She brushed off two out of three breakpoints she came across and converted two out of four break chances to her advantage.
The 18-year-old will face off eighth seeded Israeli, Deniz Khazaniuk. The Israeli crippled the fourth seed, Katharina Lehnert, with a breadstick to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk, will join Wang in the following set. She bounced back to shock second seed Wing-Yau Venise Chan in a three-set thriller to set up this battle. The Thai lifted her game after losing the opening set. She overpowered Chan in the second set tie-breaker and get back in contention. Wannasuk broke her rival’s serve in the end and eventually sealed the deal in almost three hours.
