Yahel Castillo and Julian Sanchez claim Men’s 3m synchronised crown: 2011 Pan American Games
Mexican athletes, Yahel Castillo and Julian Sanchez put up a wonderful show at the 2011 Pan American Games in Scotia Bank Aquatic centre, on Thursday, October 27. Castillo and Sanchez claimed Men’s 3m synchronised title.
Yahel Castillo and Julian Sanchez were up against their strongest rivals, Troy Dumais and Kristian Ipsen of United States and Jorge Pupo and Rene Hernandez of Cuba.
Castillo and Sanchez got off to a flying start and claimed the highest score of 457.32 points to win the Men’s 3m synchronised title. Castillo was the bronze medallist in 3m springboard synchro at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.
In the meantime, the silver title was taken over by Dumais and Ipsen with a mark of 411.99 points. After the splash, Dumais stated, “I'm happy with our performance. It's the beginning of the Olympic year, and this was a chance to test ourselves. We did some
good things, but we also have some things we need to work on. We had some timing issues on some dives we normally do very well.”
Troy Dumais was the gold medallist in springboard synchro at the 2007 Pan American Games, in Rio De Janeiro. On the other hand, Ipsen had been the bronze titlist in 3m synchro springboard at the 2009 World Championships edition, in Rome. Meanwhile, the bronze
title went to Pupo and Hernandez with a score of 384.33 marks.
On the other hand, Amy Korthauer and Amy Cozad did not perform up to the mark in the Women’s 10m platform final and settled for ninth and tenth places with a score of 262.00 and 260.60 points, respectively. While speaking about her performance, Cozad stated,
“I didn't do as well as I wanted to or as well as I've been training, but I didn't give up. I've never been in a competition like this before with all these people. I'm not sure I was quite prepared for this atmosphere. It was amazing.”
The Women’s 10m platform title was taken over by Paola Espinosa of Mexico with a score of 370.60 points and Paola Espinosa’s compatriot, Tatiana Ortiz claimed silver medal with a score of 369.05 points. The bronze medal went to Meaghan Benfeito of Canada
in a mark of 358.20 points.
The 2011 Pan American Games’ diving events are providing an excellent opportunity to all divers of the world to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming meets of the competitive diving.
