Yahel Castillo earns Men’s 3m Springboard gold medal – Swimming news
Yahel Castillo of Mexico earned gold medal of Men’s 3m Springboard on day two of the FINA/MIDEA Diving World Series 2013 in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday, May 18.
The Mexican diver devastated hopes of his opponents in the 3m event and secured the title. He was unable to face gruelling efforts of Stefanos Paparounas in the semi-final but with his strong determination, he managed to ascend on the podium for gold medal.
The Mexican diver remained comfortably ahead of his challengers from the start and cemented his place on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With his notable efforts, he earned a score of 90.10 points while Chinese diver, Li Shixin was able to grab 81.60 points on the board.
The Mexican diver continued his impeccable efforts in the second round and added a score of 91.80 points on the board while Shixin managed to add 72.00 points.
Castillo showed no leniency to his opponents and extended his lead with a score of 87.40 points in the third round while the Chinese player was able to get only 76.50 points.
Similarly, Castillo remained dominant over his challengers in the fourth round as he secured a total of 80.50 points while Shixin ended his round with 85.50 points.
Castillo’s effort deteriorated in the last two rounds where he secured 58.50 and 81.90 points respectively but he succeeded in occupying the title with a total of 490.20 points.
On the other hand, Shixin secured 84.00 and 83.85 points in fourth and fifth round respectively and obtained a silver medal with a total of 483.45 points.
Third position of the event was gained by He Chao of China, who concluded his event with an effort of 460.20 points.
Third best finisher was followed by Christopher Mears of Great Britain, who settled on the overall rankings list with a score of 455.50.
Following that, Stefanos Paparounas of Greece and Oleg Kolodiy of Ukraine secured fifth and sixth positions of the event with a score of 412.60 and 386.00 respectively.
In addition, Castillo was contented with his top finish in the event and collected accolades after the race.
