Yahel Ernesto Castillo grabbles Men's 3m Springboard gold: Day two – 2011 Pan American Games
Yahel Ernesto Castillo of Mexico met the expectations of his fans by grabbling gold medal of Men's 3m Springboard on day two of the diving competition at the 2011 Pan American Games. The session ended on Thursday, October 27 at Scotiabank Aquatics Center in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Pan American Games are scheduled after every three years and it is one of the biggest international events of sports.
Castillo won the bronze medal of 3m Springboard synchronized event along with his companion Julian Isaac Sanchez at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships. He faced stiff competition from his team-member throughout the 3m event, but with his relentless effort Castillo managed to earn his way to the top of podium for gold medal.
The Mexican devastated hopes his opponents and acquired the title of Men's event by securing a total of 529.45 points. His overshadowing efforts placed him considerably ahead of his challengers, who tried to cross him on the overall ranking lists.
The champion was followed by Sanchez, who remained 48.80 points away from overwhelming efforts of Castillo. He followed him on the podium for silver medal by scoring a fantastic total 480.65 points.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed an irresistible effort of Brazilian diver, Cesar De Castro, who overwhelmed efforts of Colombia's Sebastian Villa and Canada's Francois Imbeau to reach the podium for bronze medal.
De Castro, who qualified as the sixth best diver into the final round, elevated to the third spot with his ruthless effort. The Brazilian remained 18.50 points away from the silver medallist and accomplished a total of 462.15 points for third position.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Villa, who was almost 4 points behind him and ended fourth with a total of 458.70 points. The fifth position was earned by Imbeau as he failed to overcome the efforts of former finisher with a difference of 15.65 points. The Canadian obtained a score of 443.05 points for fifth position.
The session concluded after completion of the event whereas the podium finishers were awarded medals for their splendid efforts in the 3m discipline.
