most people think that US is leading in the olympics because of this false representation which country is ahead in the medals tally. china leads because they have twice the number of gold medals.... i really really hope the US lose the basketball match against spain tonight to teach them a thing or two about humility...

  1. only Yahoo US is "misleading"...if ou go to yahoo.au, you'll see China with most gold is on top of the medal tally

  2. The medal count should give each medal a point. For example gold = 3 points, silver = 2 points, and bronze = 1 point.

  3. Yes I believe it is somewhat unfair because how can u say that a gold  equals a silver or a bronze? Personally I think maybe we can calculate the total metals in this way:a gold can be 1 point while a silver 0.7,a bronze 0.4.That'll be more acceptible

  4. The yahoo medal count is a running tally of overall number of medals, if people click on it it goes to another page with the breakdown of medals by country....and considering what Spain did in the photos, (making fun of chinese people) they deserve to lose big time!!

  5. Spain is the most disrespectful country in all of the Olympics, I hope they lose big, and they will.

  6. Your jealousy of America is pathetic, I wish I could to see your face when the U.S. wins basketball, which we are the best in the world at.

There is no false tally, if you can read, you will see who is ahead, this is 1st grade stuff. It's only misleading if your in a loser country.

    Don't hate, congratulate.

  7. Our yahoo medal tally has China on top.

  8. 2008 Olympic Medal Count

    USA: 50

    China: 44

I'm not sure how this is misleading.  If you want to account for the quality of the medals, you might want to also account for the number of records broken or the number of events where every single medal went to the same country.

  9. What hes saying is,its misleading in the way thats not the official olympic table. Ranking is done by most gold medals if you find the official ranking on google  its China>USA>Germany>Korea. Olympic Ranking is not calculated by what country has more medals rather by Gold medal count.  Most other sites are reporting the official ranking and table.

  10. I agree the country with the most gold should be leading besides thats first place. However don't get your hopes up on the US losing to Spain.

  11. Try using Wikipedia... you can choose the order in the table by rank, nation, medal type or total medals. I agree that the method used makes it confusing. After seeing the same results in other tables and outdated information on many sites I found Wikipedia to be the easiest, most accurate and up to date of all.

  12. Don't hate, congratulate.

Are you high..U.S ain't the same team in 2004

Oh boy! going to be a blowout today :P

  13. Americans, in this case, are being PATHETIC.

During the Olympic history, they count the gold medals to know who´s first, and now that they are being OWNED by the chinese, they change their standings do mislead themsemves.

Accept this fact: now, you´re number TWO.

  14. it is already THE NEXT DAY in china, and many sports and medals have already passed, they are counting the medals as they happen there, not here.

we really do have 50 medals at this moment, it just has not been covered in the U.S.

  15. If you google medal tally you will see U.S. is at top of the overall tally, China has more gold........for now.

    Nothing misleading at all.

  16. I think it appears misleading because the countries are tallied in terms of the overall medals obtained.

as of today, USA leads on that basis.

But in terms of the most number of gold medals, china leads..

  17. I don't think it's misleading at all.  Is Belarus, with 8 medals, and no golds, less dominant than India, with its lone gold, and no silver and bronze?  The overall medal count is more indicative of a depth and breadth of nation's success in the games than the gold count to be sure.
