Why doesit seem in Australia (through watching Home and Away/Neighbours) lots of Students at High school wear Jeans not Trousers - even though they have a uniform - is this often the case in Australia?

Jeans are a pretty common sight in Australia, however not seen in all schools.  Some public schools allow it, however I have not seen it that often as uniforms are still fairly strict throughout most schools.  It's just TV - it's not that realistic.  h**l, if we were all like what happens on Neighbours I'd be getting out of this country asap!!!  Lol.
