Question:

Yahoo Group - adding members AND sending invites?

Can I invite as well as add the same members to my Yahoo Group? I sent invitations but they haven't received it yet (sent it 1 day ago). I need to send some announcements to the Yahoo Group so I was thinking I could add them as members until we work out the issues with the invitations. Is this feasible?

  3. The main difference between adding members and sending invites is that invitations require a response before a member is added to the group.

Also, users who are "added" rather than "invited" will be treated as "email-only members" of the group. This means they won’t be able to use the group's web features (photos, files, calendar, etc.) until web access members[/url].

The "Invite Members" feature allows you to send an email invitation to people to join the group. You can invite people by email address or Yahoo! ID.

These people won’t be added to the group until they have responded to the invitation.

The "Add Members" feature allows you to automatically add members to your group's mailing list by email address. These people will receive a welcome email to the Group without having first responded to an invitation. So, please use this feature only if you’ve received permission to do so from the people you’re adding.

Note: It’s against the Yahoo! Groups Terms of Service to add people to your group without their permission. Yahoo! Groups provides the "Add Members" feature as a convenience to group moderators for those occasions that require directly importing a few email addresses to a group. If you abuse this feature, your group will be deleted and your Yahoo! account will be suspended.

To invite members to your group:

    1. Click Members in the list on the left side of any page.

    2. In the upper right, click Invite People.

    3. In the first box, enter the email addresses or Yahoo! IDs of the people you want to invite to your group, one per line. In the second box, write the text of the invitation you want them to see.

    4. Click Submit Invite.

    5. Preview your invite. If you'd like to edit it, click Edit. If you'd like to send it, click Invite People.

    6. You may invite up to 50 people at a time to your group

To add (directly import) members to your group:

    1. Click Members from the list on the left of any page.

    2. In the upper right, click Invite People.

    3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Add Members from an existing email list.

    4. In the first box, enter the email addresses of new members you want to add, one per line. In the second box, type any message you’d like them to receive regarding their addition to your group.

    5. Click Continue.

    6. Review the list of email addresses to be added. If you'd like to edit it, click on Edit. To add the new members, click Continue.

Now, review the welcome email that will be sent, and if it looks good to you, click Add Members. If you’d like to change the "My introductory message to you" portion of the email, click Edit. The remainder of the text cannot be changed.

You may add 10 addresses per day. The limit applies both to an individual group and an individual moderator.

Example 1: If you have 2 groups, you may add 10 members per day to one or 5 to each.

Example 2: If there are two moderators for your group who add members, each of you may add 5 per day, or just one of you could add 10 and the other none, etc.

(Note: per day does not mean calendar day; there will usually be a 24-28 hour lag before more users can be added.)

Important Notes regarding use of this feature:

It’s against the Yahoo! Groups Terms of Service to add people to your group without their permission. Yahoo! Groups provides the Add Members feature as a convenience to group moderators for those occasions that require directly importing a few email addresses to a group. If you abuse this feature, your group will be deleted and your Yahoo! account will be suspended.

Yahoo! highly recommends using the Invite Members feature as the preferred method to add members to your group.
