Question:

Yahoo Groups- anyone have a member deleted without a moderator removing them?

I recently had a situation with my Yahoo Group. I had a member contact me asking why she had been deleted. I had not deleted (removed) this member or any other member since the group was formed.

I changed some of the setting on the group to make it more secure and changed the group password, thinking maybe I'd been hacked. Trouble is, the membership acitivity log stated she left via web. So, my thinking is, she or someone in her household removed her username, or SHE got hacked.

I'd just like to prevent this in the future, so if anyone has tips or tricks for preventing this stuff, let me know.

  1. first, groups do not have passwords, so hopefully no one will go looking for one. you must had changed your own password in prevention of a hacker.

second, if the logs state they left via the web, then it's on their end, not the groups. under moderator activity, it'll also list who you removed as an owner or moderator.

I doubt they were hacked, generally hackers don't go removing memberships, they do far more damage than that. my guess is they unsubbed, and didn't realize they did or what they clicked. happens to my members all the time. as for preventing it, you really cant. I have a file that goes out upon leaving, giving the group address and various reason why one may have left, and suggest they rejoin if they want to at any time.
