Question:

Yahoo Pool Rules Vs. BCA Rules (I hate to even ask this)?

For those of you intimately familiar with BCA (world-standardized) rules for 8-ball, what are the differences between these rules and the rule set used for Yahoo Pool? I've never played Yahoo Pool and I have no intention of doing so. I just want to know if Yahoo Pool is contributing to some of the misinformation among casual players. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  1. I have played pool for many years and absolutley hate BCA rules. BCA rules ar for panseys and people who do not know how to play pool. Ball in hand is BS, learn how to play pool.

  2. Sorry Straight I dont Play it either

As for the little F Wad it BS like you that have F up the rules in the first place because bar owners have to make it easy enough to get your 75 cents dont you ever hear people laughing behind your back when you play. Think you better stay with wrestling and call yourself a sports fan or help people find their pet rock

Yes I am serious read his profile

And its little Tur-s like you that I quit having tourns in my bar about 2 dozen like you that we have to show how to play-d- see if you can tell where the d goes you or your 3 quarters just aint worth the stupid s**+- we have to put up with

But Straight inspite of his stupidity and my rambling prob where a lot of it comes from

    Good question

  3. Where's Dre O when you need her?? I'm no help here, obviously, but I must admit that I was on that game site pogo.com playing a word game, and pool caught my eye and...yes, I played a couple of games. I don't know how similar it is to Yahoo pool, but I can tell you that if you scratch or hit the wrong ball (no rail I'm not sure about), you get ball in hand anywhere on the table (thank goodness!! how could you ever make a ball otherwise?? Mel... :)  ).  You don't have to call your shot except for the 8-ball.  But again, that's pogo.  I was actually going to ask this very question myself a few weeks ago...don't know why I didn't...

  5. Since nobody seems to actually be answering the question, I'll do my best.

1.) Any break which contacts the rack is legal. No balls need to hit any rails.

2.) Making the black ball (they are not numbered) on the break is a loss.

3.) Group is not usually decided on the break, but for some reason if you make one of each group, you get to pick whether you're stripes or solids, then take ball in hand. This is one of a couple head scratchers in yahoo pool.

4.) The only fouls are scratches and not hitting the correct group first, which both result in ball in hand. Not hitting a rail after hitting a ball is not a foul, which is the most annoying Yahoo rule.

5.) This is the other head scratcher rule. Assume all the balls in your group except one are off the table. If you then hit the black ball first and combo in your last ball, you give up your turn, but not ball in hand. If you do not pocket the ball, you give up ball in hand.

Overall, they're a slight step up from 'bar' rules since they do use ball in hand, but they still suck. You can still play BS safeties but lightly nuzzling the cue ball up against one of your balls without hitting a rail.

  6. I used to play yahoo pool back when I first got on line and to be honest , It's a joke. Been a long time ago so I don't recall all of the rules but you don't even have to hit a rail if you miss. That alone should tell you how a lot of the games go. ''Oh , I don't have a shot , let me see, yeah, I'll just tap my ball and hide behind it , that'll work''. Like I said shooter , it's just a joke. I'm sure it leads to a lot of misconceptions about the rules of real pool.
