  1. I have just tried it and it is pretty close ... according to the NZ golfsite, my projected is a 4.4 but on yahoo its 4.1 so you need to see what the difference is. We are quite lucky in NZ to have an online system that most of the clubs use ... www.golf.co.nz and everyone can check to see what people are playing off.

It doesn't matter about old scores because it takes the best 10 of your last 20 scores to get your handicap.

  2. I'm sure the Yahoo system is accurate and you will know what your handicap would be if you had one.  You have to be a member of a golf club to have an official handicap.  Otherwise your scores are not eligible for peer review.

  3. I wouldn't use Yahoo's, use this site, not only for handicap tracking, but also for booking rounds, you get discounts on them, and get points and **** to get free rounds. And it's handicap tracker is 100% correct, including number putts and all that ****.

  4. It's true that you have to belong to a club. But the USGA also has something called a Club Without Real Estate:

"A group of at least 10 individual players operating in a limited geographic area, running a named club guided by written by-laws and committees to supervise golf activities. New or reinstated applicants must have a reasonable and regular opportunity to play golf with each other, and include a copy of the club by-laws and a name and address roster of the players."

These too are legitimate. What this means on a practical basis is that you can get an official handicap through your local off-course pro shop (we have several that offer them). Some of the national online handicapping services assign you to a local "club" to meet these requirements.
