Yahov Toumarkin clinches Men’s 200m backstroke title: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Yahov Toumarkin displayed his astounding skills by clinching gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on concluding day of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
The 19-year-old Toumarkin faced no trouble in occupying top spot of the race as he remained outstandingly ahead of his competitors.
Toumarkin, who earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) earlier at the championship, was the first swimmer to jump into the water. With his unrelenting efforts and true determination, he completed his initial lap of the race in a time of
28.35 seconds. He was followed by Mattias Carlsson, who stayed just 0.50 seconds slower and ended his initial lap with an effort of 28.85 seconds.
With his stupendous efforts, Toumarkin kept on enhancing lead from his strongest opponent in the second lap and ended his first round by posting a time of 58.98 seconds. He was followed by 21-year-old Carlsson, who remained nearly half body length behind
and completed his initial half with the timing of 1 minute and 00.62 seconds.
Both swimmers continued their gruelling efforts in the third lap. Carlsson tried hard to restore order but Toumarkin overpowered his efforts by clocking a time of 1 minute and 30.33 seconds. He stayed nearly 2.50 seconds faster from Carlsson, who ended his
third lap by posting 1 minute and 32.89 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Toumarkin remained dominant in the final lap and ensured his place on the victory stand for gold medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 00.80 seconds. In contrast, Carlsson was 2.49 seconds away from the gold medallist and
secured silver medal of the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.29 seconds.
Martin Nilsson proved his eligibility for the third position of the event as he submitted a time of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
The arena enjoyed tremendous struggles of all contestants in the four-lap backstroke event while the winners received accolades for their furious efforts after the session. In addition, the championship concluded after the completion of all listed events
in Men and Women’s corner.
