Israel’s budding shuttler Yakov Perlov lived up to the expectations as he clinched Men’s Singles title after narrowly beating his team-mate Shoni Shvartzman in an epic final battle at the Klaipedos Badmintonui 50 on Sunday, August 26, in Lithuania.
The impressive Yakov, who showed an impressive performance in his previous matches in the event, had to dig into his arsenal to overpower his aggressive challenger in an epic fight that took 45 minutes of attacking badminton from both sides.
Yakov played good badminton in opening set but not enough to stop his rival from taking the first game. However, he managed to play positive and aggressive game in the following sets and won the match with a tight margin.
On the contrary, Shoni put up spectacular show of attacking badminton and took the first but remained unlucky in the second game as he lost it with a narrow difference. In the decider, he could not produce better form and lost to his team-mate with a respectable
score on the board.
In the first game, both shuttlers showed their aggression by playing attacking badminton and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the in-form Yakov tried his best to create pressure on his opponent but failed to employ his attacking skills in an effective manner and eventually lost the set with a narrow score of 20-22.
In the following set, both shuttlers again grabbed the attention of the crowd by playing fast and positive badminton and the score remained close again until the end of opening half.
After the break, they continued their sensational play all the way to reach at the breath-taking stage of 24-24 when Yakov showed his class and scored ending points to end up the game with a dramatic 26-24 score on the board.
In the decider, Yakov played much better game as he took over the control of rallies from his rival and managed a reasonable lead until the break.
Yakov continued his positive and planned game after the break and easily won the deciding game with a margin of 21-15.
The aggressive Yakov emerged as the winner of this epic battle in three games with a thrilling 20-22, 26-24 and 21-15 score on the board.
