Yakubu Aiyegbeni eager to score against Tottenham
Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has said he would be glad to score against Tottenham this Saturday, 23 October as he searches for his form after returning from injury.
Yakubu scored his first goal at Goodison Park since 2008 in April this year after being ruled out with a serious Achilles injury. This season, the Nigerian has made five league appearances, two as a substitute, but has yet to score in any competition.
As his team travel to face Harry Redknapp's side at White Hart Lane, Yakubu said he is eager to score his first goal of the current season at the same ground where he ruptured his tendon in November 2008.
“White Hart Lane is where I got my injury and when I played there last season I did think about it," the striker said about the same encounter last season, during which he scored Everton's only goal. "The injury is out of my mind now and I am not thinking
about it. I feel so much better this season and I really want to go there and perform well and forget the injury once and for all. It would be special to score a goal there on top of a good performance as two years ago I had my bad injury. A goal this time
would put that memory away once and for all. I want to score goals and it would be nice to get going at Tottenham."
Wants to do his job as a striker
The powerful 27-year-old has scored 32 goals in 77 appearances since joining Everton from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2007.
While David Moyes' squad contains several midfileders with an eye for goal, Yakubu said that he wants to help his way in the way he knows how.
"In the past when I’ve started scoring I haven’t stopped. I am a striker and I love scoring goals. Players like Tim [Cahill] and Mikel [Arteta] have been scoring the goals and that is great but I want to start helping them."
