Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 went on to get relegated from the Premier League, following a ten year stay in the top flight and this has caused Yakubu to feel rather confused about the team and its future.
After failing to secure enough points to stay above the bottom three, Blackburn went on to finish in the nineteenth spot and were hence relegated.
However, despite the team playing so poorly, Yakubu proved to be a shining light for the club. The attacker was constantly causing problems to Blackburn’s opponents and even proved to be a crucial part of the team, when they beat Manchester United.
The striker ended the season being tied in the fourth spot for the leading goal scorer in the league. Due to his contributions, he went on to win the player of the season award at the club, despite having joined the team last August.
When reflecting on the season and how it has been a series of mixed emotions for him, the powerful striker is reported to have said: "I had a great season but I am really disappointed that we didn't stay in the league.”
"I have to give credit to my team mates; I don't think that I'd have been able to score 17 league goals if it wasn't for them.”
"It is one of the best seasons that I've ever had, scoring 17 goals in the Premier League, I feel good for that but then I also feel very sad."
He then went on to admit that the squad was really tight as a unit and that it was only a matter of time before they were back up in the Premier League.
The striker added: "It is a family club, a club with great history, we all worked hard together, and we are all friends.”
"It is sad that the club has gone down but we have to bounce back to the Premier League."
Given the team’s experience in the Premier League, many believe that they would be back in the top flight of English football within one season, while their younger players would gain plenty of experience of their own, after playing in the Championship.
