Are these good motors? I'm about to buy a 565 Haines with this out board on the back - it hasent been started for a year, it was said that it was a solid motor with a faultless record record. I have seen a few of these motors on various vessels and was wondering of other peoples opinion of these motors??? cheers Z

  1. Arguably the BEST outboard engine available ever. Straight die-hard...you don't see enough of them because people are cheap and uninformed. They are way better than Honda or anything else out there.

I'm sure some marine mechanics will way in on this today and you'll see.....

  2. things to watch out for ,, oil metering system. needs regular checking

power head bolts need regular ie pulled out and put back in again ,(can use a bit of grease to stop then locking tight by electrolisis, into the casing)

gear select shaft needs renewing sometimes or it will break due to rusting, the power head has to come off so you should do these things to prevent future problems.

and watch out for broad statements and judging people like your 2nd answer
