Question:

Yamaha FX6 or Suzuki SV650?

Pending the approval of my wife (of course), I'm looking at getting a new bike. I narrowed it down to these two "naked" sportbikes. They're similar in price, size, power, ect. But I'm not sure which I like more. Does anyone have reccomendations, stories, advice, or interesting facts about either of these that you can give me? Thanks

  1. It came down to the FZ6 and SV650 for me 3 yrs. ago. I chose the FZ6 and I'm happy with it.

  2. Both bikes are fine.  Either one will work.  Go sit on both of them for 15 minutes or so.  Pick the one you like.  Street riding will never push either of bikes to the limits, so don't worry about the performance aspect.

  3. The SV650- but put GSXR600 forks on it and better tires.

The FZ6 isn't going to handle as well as an SV650 with properly dialed in suspension

  4. don't discount the bandit 650, it would be somewhere in between the two.  I am biased since I have an sv650, but here are the main points for each:

sv650:  torquier engine, but much less overall horsepower.  about 50 lbs lighter.  with some suspension tuning, it handles extremely well.  lots of customization possible

fz6:  supersport derived motor.  if you are used to keeping the motor revved up then this one will make you happy.  it could also use some suspension tuning for optimal handling.

stock, both have a comfortable riding position and get great fuel mileage.
