Yamaha Factory Racing duo Jorge Lorenzo, Ben Spies test 1000cc YZR-M1 at Brno – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies participated in the official MotoGP post race test held at Brno, Czech Republic.
Both riders hit the track with the new 2012 YZR-M1.
The maximum time of the test day was spent in testing the 2011 800cc M1. Lorenzo and Spies tested the engine and electronics along different chassis. Some new fairing parts were also tested to enhance the aerodynamics. Aboard the 1000cc bikes, Lorenzo was
second on the final time sheet and Spies was third fastest for the day.
Lorenzo said, “Today has been an exciting and busy day because it has been the first day riding the 1000cc bike, but also because we have made a small step with the engine upgrades for the 800cc bike. We rode many laps non-stop from nine this morning to
five this afternoon!”
Lorenzo added that the 1000cc M1 was a good machine to ride, especially the power on straights was the key factor that impressed him. The Spaniard urged to do more laps aboard 2012 bike, but his focus for the day was 2011 bikes and its enhancements.
After testing the 2012 M1, he anticipated that the next MotoGP season will be more fun with more powerful bikes and sliding corner exits. He is eager to race in the next season.
Spies said, “The 800cc upgrades we tested this morning were positive, hopefully there’s more in that direction in the future as well. With the 1000cc bike it was a pretty successful first day. We didn’t change much on it, pretty much just rolled out and
did some laps to get as much data as possible.”
On the other side of the Yamaha Factory garage, Ben Spies applied some changes on the 1000cc bike to test its behaviour compared to the 800cc. Though it needs changes to make the bike even better, but riding faster than the 800cc bikes on the first shot
was an amazing experience for Spies.
While commenting on his stressed nerve which made his arm numb, he said he had been undergoing physiotherapy to relieve his nerves. He aims to get fit for his home event taking place at Indianapolis on August 28, 2011.
