Yamaha Factory Racing duo Lorenzo, Spies geared up for Barcelona – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider duo of Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies is ready to race at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on June 5, 2011.
Lorenzo’s last race at home ground in Jerez was a clean success for him, though the race was conducted in wet, greasy conditions but the Yamaha prime rider came out as a winner with his consistent performance.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo said, “We are now going straight to Montmelo and we don't even need to take a plane. It is amazing! I am so happy to be here, the closest track to my home. I remember last year's victory and also those in my 250cc
days.”
Despite finishing fourth at the Le Mans circuit, the Spaniard still leads the world championship table. He leads by 12 points from the new second place sitter Casey Stoner. Dani Pedrosa, who was not able to finish the French GP due to his accident, dropped
to third place in the points table.
The Spanish rider is clear about the competition ahead which will be tough to win. The team needs to progress and prepare for the Catalan race because the contenders are in good shape. Lorenzo is still recovering from a finger injury that he sustained in
the warm-up round at Le Mans.
Lorenzo and his team are hoping to score a podium finish at the upcoming grand prix. The team will start their preparations on Friday.
Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies has just put an end to his unfortunate ‘did not finish’ statuses in the last two races before the French GP. In the season opener event at Losail, he finished sixth with 10 points. The previous round he fought with compatriot
Nicky Hayden held him off to finish at sixth place as well.
Spies said, “I think I’m looking forward to this race more than any so far this year! This is definitely a circuit I like to ride a lot more than the previous four. After a difficult start with some unlucky results we put in a solid ride at Le Mans, considering
the pace of some of our competitors I was happy to finish where we did and get some points under my belt.”
Spies is at 12th position in the points table, two points adrift of Marco Simoncelli in eighth place.
