Yamaha Factory Racing duo Lorenzo and Spies spend tough race day at Brno, Czech Republic – MotoGP
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies went through a tough raceday at Brno, Czech Republic for the 11th MotoGP event of the 2011 championship.
Despite Lorenzo’s good start in the race, he was hampered by bad tyre choice.
Lorenzo chose to run a soft compound tyre at the front which cost him to lose grip later in the race. Initially in the race, he took lead and held off the Repsol Honda trio. However, gradually Dani Pedrosa and then Casey Stoner passed him. Lorenzo was third
until then but later when Pedrosa crashed, Lorenzo was second and was under threat from Dovizioso.
Lorenzo said, “The front tyre we chose was not the best option today. We tried it in qualifying and yesterday morning and it gave me a really good feeling and very constant pace. Today with the different conditions and temperature it was not working.”
The Spanish rider shares his race experience and said that while in second lap he almost lost his front end. That slowed him down and made it hard for him to improve his race position. He further said that regaining the championship lead is now more difficult
but he will still fight back with full effort.
Now the Yamaha factory team aims to win races as much as possible in order to reduce the points’ gap. Now Lorenzo is 32 points away at second position from Casey Stoner. The previous gap was of 20 points after Stoner won at Laguna Seca.
The Spaniard is now looking forward to test the 1000cc 2012 bike during the official MotoGP post-race test at Brno. He will be testing the new 1000cc prototype for further possible developments and will also test his 800cc M1 for enhancing the setup.
Spies said, “That was a hard race; I wanted to quit every lap past the ninth! I tried as hard as I could and didn’t make too many mistakes. I just thought with Valentino coming behind me and being ahead in the Championship I’ve just got to keep on going
until I fall of this thing.”
For the American rider it was a tough race day at Brno. Spies had to encounter pain and a numb arm due to stressed nerve in his neck. It hindered his performance and made him to lose a position from the start. However, completing the race in the fifth position
was a fine result from him in the end.
