Yamaha Factory Racing reveals livery for 2011 season – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing has presented its official factory colour scheme at an event held in Malaysia.
The 2011 YZR-M1 prototypes were shown in new official colour code that defending World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and rookie of the year teammate Ben Spies will ride this season.
Both riders were present at the 2011 livery unveiling occasion alongside their respective bikes at Sepang International Circuit where the media captured the colours of Yamaha Factory Racing team. Jorge Lorenzo’s bike carries a new No. 1 logo designed
out of his name initials. They will practice on these new dressed M1s at the second pre-season test at SIC on February 22, 2011.
This new colour scheme significantly features Yamaha’s corporate blue colour as the Japanese manufacturer celebrates its 50th anniversary of performance participation in MotoGP. The company’s first appearance was in French GP on May 21,
1961. An exclusive 50th anniversary logo has been designed and will be displayed on the fuel tank of new 2011 M1.
To further extend the celebrations of marking the achievement, Yamaha has developed a new dedicated website for the anniversary and some events will also be held at Motegi and Assen rounds of 2011 MotoGP World Championship.
In attendance at the launching press conference with Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies were Yamaha Moto Racing MD Lin Jarvis, new Team Director Massimo Meregalli and Team Manager Wilco Zeelenberg. In further shared appearance were Shigeto Kitagawa, Masahiko
Nakajima and Kouichi Tsuji.
Lin Jarvis was proud to be present at the event and stated to be ready to mark new achievements as this season start is coming closer. Jarvis is in high hopes as this year is very important for the company as its 50th anniversary of Grand
Prix involvement. The team is happy to line in front at the grid with Defending World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and welcomes the rookie of the year 2010 Ben Spies to the Yamaha Factory Racing team. It is worthy to start up this year in Yamaha’s corporate colours.
Jorge Lorenzo shared his views with media and said, “I'm very happy to be here again preparing to start another season riding with Yamaha. Winning the World Championship last season was an incredible feeling, but now we start again.”
He also appreciated the effort of his team and the struggle of the Japanese engineers to develop the M1 during winter break and feels confident for more success this season.
Ben Spies, Rookie of the Year 2010, explained, “We worked really hard last year to earn the seat with the Yamaha Factory team so it's a great feeling to be here alongside Jorge. It's obviously a special year for Yamaha with the 50th Anniversary of
GP racing celebrations so I'm really thrilled to be part of it. The bike's feeling really good.”
Spies also added that we have few days of test sessions to improve further and tune the machine to requirements.
