Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies aims to perform well at Australian GP – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is looking forward to deliver a great performance at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix on October 16, 2011.
The Texan rider aims to improve ahead from his sixth place finish at Motegi a couple of weeks ago.
Spies said, “Phillip Island is such a great circuit to ride; I’ve got great memories there from my time in World Superbike and also last year where we had a really good race.”
The American Yamaha rider has scored a single win in the season so far at the Assen event and has two third place finishes at Catalunya and Indianapolis. The 2010 MotoGP rookie is enduring his debut season with the factory squad.
After spending the 2010 MotoGP season with Monster Yamaha Tech3 team, he was ready to take the place of Valentino Rossi in the factory team.
During the recent MotoGP event held at the Twin Ring Motegi, Spies missed the fight for the podium due to tough track conditions.
After two Italians, Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli were penalised by a ‘ride through’ penalty, Spies had a chance to take podium finish by just tackling Alvaro Bautista.
Spies added, “We had yet another unlucky break in Japan but still managed to deliver a good ride, so we’ll take the positives from that and give it 100% this weekend and see what we can do. I’ve been relaxing here in Australia for a few days, so I’m fully
fit, refreshed and ready for it!”
Both Yamaha factory riders had a training session at Indonesia and are now prepared to deliver a promising performance at the Phillip Island.
Spies’ teammate Jorge Lorenzo is fully prepared to challenge the championship leader Casey Stoner at his home ground during the Iveco Australian Grand Prix. Stoner has a close shot to win the 2011 title if he wins the race and Lorenzo misses podium.
Considering the points, Lorenzo can also take the title from the remaining 75 points from three rounds. However, Stoner has been successful at Phillip Island in the last four years and the possibilities are high this time again.
