Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies eager to hit Indianapolis Motor Speedway – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is keen to start the race weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The 12th MotoGP round, the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix is due on August 28, 2011.
In the 2010 MotoGP season, Spies marched to second place on the podium with his Tech3 Yamaha machine. Meanwhile his present teammate Jorge Lorenzo was third in the race last season.
Ben Spies said, “I'm really hoping to be completely fit for this weekend. I've still got some numbness in the arm but it is better than it was at Brno. We've been working hard to get it right and we will of course give it 100% as always.”
With his factory M1, Spies took his first MotoGP win at TT Assen event this season. Unfortunately, the American rider faced a stressed nerve in his neck which troubled his arm. This caused his performance to drop at the Brno event.
The Texan rider has said that he has been looking forward to this event through the season. His claimed that last season’s event was thrilling for him especially being in his rookie year. He scored a second place on the podium from pole start. He is keen
to race well for his home crowd.
Massimo Meregalli said, “I'm hoping that Ben will be 100% because it is his home race and expectations are quite high. The team are going to use some new updates that we tested in Brno; these will help both Ben and Jorge challenge for the front. Last year
both riders finished on the podium so we are confident for this event.”
After the Brno test, the new parts tested on the M1 have shown significant improvements. With positive test results, Spies and Lorenzo will use new upgraded engines for the Red Bull Indy GP. This step is expected to be enough to dominate the factory Hondas
in the rest of the season.
Recalling Yamaha’s celebrations the team will be showing up in red-white livery used at Assen and Laguna Seca. At Netherlands, it blessed Spies and might help him again to win the upcoming event.
