Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies keen to race at Mugello – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is keen to race at the upcoming Gran Premio d’Italia TIM, after success at the MotoGP Assen event.
The new race winner of the 2011 MotoGP season Spies has left Assen on a positive note and a success for Yamaha on its 50th anniversary in grand prix racing. Assen was the first venue of Yamaha’s anniversary display.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Ben Spies said, “These few days off seem to have taken forever; when you finish a race like Assen you just want to get straight back in and try to do it again. My first GP victory still hasn’t sunk in properly; it was pretty
special for me to be able to do it at such a legendary circuit and at this unique time in Yamaha’s history.”
The Texan rider said, “The red and white livery definitely bought me luck! I’m looking forward to Mugello; the track has apparently got a new surface with lots of grip so it should be pretty good for the bike and pretty exciting for the fans.”
The tight schedule of six races in eight weeks allows the riders to continue their momentum from the point where they paused. The American rider is in his debut season with the Yamaha factory team.
The team will now enter its homeland race weekend at Mugello since they have their headquarters near Milan. Yamaha Racing will make its effort to score team’s second consecutive win especially being a home event.
The young American delivered a good performance at the Italian venue in 2010 under the Tech3 belt. He took seventh place in the race with an occasional visit to the fourth place in the run.
Meanwhile his teammate Jorge Lorenzo is fully focused for the Italian round and wants to leave all the misfortunes behind. The Spaniard was victimised by Marco Simoncelli, when the Italian rider fell in front of him.
However Lorenzo will fight back to shorten the points gap from Casey Stoner and try to regain the championship lead.
