Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies skips Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider took a hit during the qualifying practice session, worsening his injury on ribs.
The crash was severe that Spies went into concussion and tore his muscles on rib cage.
During the Phillip Island event Yamaha’s both factory riders Spies and Jorge Lorenzo had an accident and missed the race. The injuries sustained at the Australian event were not fully recovered as he had two falls in one day.
In the FP3 and QP session, the Texan rider was unfortunate and could not with stand the technicality of the circuit. Already he was suffering from pain and bruises that worsened during the Sepang crash.
Spies said, “It’s been a pretty eventful weekend. The bike is working really well but I’m just not feeling 100% and ready to get it over and done with. Qualifying was tough, we went out there and experienced a crash, I’m not sure why yet but we’ll check
the data later.”
After taking couple of hit on the asphalt he was qualified for 16th position on the grid and tended to get a decent result from the Malaysian GP. He will be fighting to sustain his fifth position in the 2011 world championship.
Following his bad health conditions and pains after the crashes he and his team has mutually decided to step out of the race. He is cautious to avoid any further accidents due to lack of concentration on the race.
He will also be missing the 1000cc prototype test taking place on Monday at the Sepang circuit. Spies’ teammate Lorenzo is also sidelined for the Malaysian GP, whereas Yamaha’s test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga will be racing at Malaysia.
Nakasuga mentioned, “This morning’s session was quite positive for me. I had a good feeling and found a rhythm on the track which was very motivating. Tomorrow I will try my best for a good position. The bike set up is working well so I am feeling confident
for my first ever MotoGP race.”
The Japanese test rider will be solely representing the Yamaha factory team at the Sepang. Both factory riders are expected to race at Valencia, the final round of the 2011 MotoGP season.
