Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo attends Laguna Seca presser – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing team rider Jorge Lorenzo attended the pre-race media press conference at the Laguna Seca.
The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix is the first event of the second half of the season and tenth event on 2011 MotoGP calendar.
Reigniting the Yamaha celebration of 50th anniversary in grand prix racing, the team and riders’ duo are prepared to shine with their new red-white livery. The new livery proved lucky for them as Ben Spies won the Dutch TT Assen GP in that.
Lorenzo said, “In the past few races we have recovered some points on Stoner, but we have pushed a lot to do that. We had some difficult situations in the middle of the race, we had been quite far from the top guys, but in the end at the last moments we
gained some points on Casey.”
The team rider, Lorenzo added that he and his team aim to extend the performance level at every weekend. He said it will be a great step to gain important points in the championship standings.
After winning the Italian race and scoring a second place at Sachsenring, Lorenzo is pleased to be in a strong fighting position in the championship. The early season struggle has ended when he had to make a lot of effort to win the races.
The Spaniard said, “It’s always great to come here to the US. The track is very different, very narrow in parts, it has very difficult points like the ‘corkscrew’ and some fast corners. I have some strong memories over the last few years, and it was only
last year I took a victory here.”
Lorenzo has been the winner at Laguna Seca in the 2010 MotoGP season. Despite a crash in the race, he won the event from pole seat.
Lorenzo is aiming to reduce the 15-point lead of Stoner as soon as possible. The Aussie’s previous lead has been cut down to half in the past two events. Following Lorenzo is Stoner’s teammate Andrea Dovizioso who is also a closing threat for the Spaniard
in the championship.
