Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo decides to move on from Assen accident – MotoGP news
MotoGP star Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing has decided to move on to Mugello from the accident between him and Marco Simoncelli at the Dutch TT Assen Grand Prix.
He said he will participate in the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM without any thoughts from the incident of Assen. Lorenzo said, “We are going to Mugello with no time to rest and think about what happened last Saturday. The team did a great job and I believe now
the bike can be better, we can make a step forward.”
The defending world champion is 28 points behind the MotoGP world championship leader Casey Stoner. With an accident at Silverstone, Lorenzo lost all of his lead to his Aussie rival from the Repsol family. From British GP, the lead shifted from Lorenzo to
Stoner with an 18-point difference.
The recent accident with San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli crashed the Spaniard from the second position battle in Saturday’s race. The desperate Italian went in a violent high side in front of Lorenzo. Simoncelli left no space for the Spaniard,
eventually crashing him down.
However, both riders managed to restart the race and ended up with some points at Netherlands. Lorenzo came sixth to minimise the points deficit from the leader.
Lorenzo said, “We have to be positive after all! Mugello is a track I like so much, maybe one of the most beautiful in the world, and is my favourite along with Phillip Island. This track is full of chicanes and this year there is new asphalt! I've never
won in MotoGP, but we will try this year and give a show to all our fans.”
Jorge Lorenzo holds a good record at the Italian venue with his 250cc class win along with two podium visits in second place in premier class in 2009 and 2010 seasons. His premier class success is with Yamaha Factory Racing team. As all teams expect the
weather to be different from the previous races, Lorenzo also hopes that it will be a little warmer at the Tuscan circuit.
