Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo delighted with Catalunya GP result – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo is delighted at his second position finish at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
It was a great success for the Barcelona rider to have a decent finish in front of his home crowd, as previously he won the second round of the season at Jerez, Spain.
Lorenzo said, “I’m really happy with the result, I gave it the maximum! I overtook Casey on the start but I knew he could overtake me. I tried to stay with him and not to lose his back wheel for as long as possible. At the end it started to rain a little
and it was tough to keep concentration in the last sector but we managed it.”
The Catalan Grand Prix finish adds a fourth podium finish in his account out of five rounds of the 2011 season. His teammate Ben Spies hung on his tail and remained untouched during the whole race to finish on the podium at third place.
Although he did not win the home event but Lorenzo still leads the world championship points table with a difference of seven points from Casey Stoner. The MotoGP campaign will shortly move to Silverstone and the Yamaha Factory prime rider looks forward
to get a decent result.
Yamaha Factory Racing Team Manager, Wilco Zeelenberg is pleased to get a double podium finish from the team riders. The improvement in the M1 race settings has shown a good result in the end.
TM Wilco Zeelenberg said, “Not a very spectacular race but second and third places are of course very important to us. We closed the gap we feel this weekend even if it was difficult circumstances. We said at the beginning it’s important to finish every
race on the podium.”
Zeelenberg also added that the team needs to improve in some more areas, but for the moment, they are progressing in the right direction. He expressed his happiness for the effort put in by Lorenzo and Spies and that the Texan was back on track.
